What I REALLY Want for Christmas

When I was asked to write this post for the UrbanMoms Holiday Campaign I had to consider whether or not I wanted to dream big with trips to Paris, premium cars and a million dollars or be a little more practical and remember it’s a Christmas list and not an “if I won the lottery” list.

So then I really had to think… what do I want for Christmas?  I considered the practical like a new winter coat to wear over suits, a few new shades of MAC eye shadow and frames from Ikea for the multitude of photographs of my kids but these are all things I really need to choose for myself. 

So I decided to answer the question that moms rarely get asked this time of year – what do I REALLY want for Christmas.  Here goes…

1.  The Tassimo.  So dreamy… hot steaming coffee to fit whatever mood I’m in all within minutes.  I could literally dream about lattes, cappuccinos and flavoured coffee. 

2. The Step Basket.  I know it’s kind of practical and kind of pointless all at the same time, but think about how much stuff piles up on your stairs.  Every day I put things on my stairs that need to go up and I swear despite being only one of the seven people who live in this house I am the ONLY person who actually carries things up the stairs.  Why not have all the ”items in waiting” sit in something that’s at least pretty to look at?

3.  Panty by Post.  I’ve been obsessed with the concept since July when I blogged about it here.  All I have to say about this service is one pair of underwear delivered to your door every month without having to truck a mini-van load of children to the mall and through the lingerie store.  Need I say more?

4.  Photography Lessons.  I have a decent camera in the Olympusbut I am taking not-so-amazing pictures.  They are waaaay better than the pictures I was taking with my last digital (non SLR) camera but I know for a fact I am not using my SLR to it’s full potential.  I have no idea where and I certainly have no idea WHEN but I definitely know I need some lessons.

Which brings me to the ULTIMATE WHAT I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS and I can describe it in no other way than to say “time”. 

All I really want is more time.

Time to spend with the kids.

Time to clean my house more than a lick and a promise (as my Grandma would say).

Time to get a pedicure.

But mostly, time to just sit back and enjoy.  This working mother/shift-worker’s wife gig makes the whole time to just sit, take-in and enjoy usually a non-reality.

So Santa, if you’re listening, I’d love an hour more in my day to just be a mom and just a wife and just Maija.  An hour where I don’t have to worry about work or dishes or Sugar Plum’s homework.  Just an hour.  I’m sure that’s not too much to ask?

Then again I’d settle for a Tassimo, step basket, Panty by Post and/or photography lessons.  Your choice.
